On January 3rd, 2006, Momentum Music and Dance Academy moved into it's new residence at 15811 Ambaum Blvd SW in Burien, Washington.
At the center of the building, our facility features 3 large private dance floors that feature full-length mirrors and professional Marley floors. Our facility offers a separate lobby with reception area, a changing room, a student break room/homework room, 3 private music lesson studios, and a fourth multi-purpose studio used for birthday party celebrations, group music classes and more.
In addition, there is a separate common area with large men’s and women’s restrooms, drinking fountains, an outdoor fenced-in sitting area and ample parking for all!
This new, state-of-the-art facility gives us the ability to schedule more simultaneous classes (dance and music), so your family and friends may all participate in Momentum activities at the same time.

The "Floating" Professional Dance Floor
Dance is a very physical activity that requires a lot of jumping, which can put stress on bones and joints. Most dance footwear does not provide any cushioning or support, so the shock of dance movement can place a lot of pressure on the knees and back of a dancer. The best way to prevent against potential injury is by choosing a studio with a professional "sprung floor". A sprung floor is a dance floor that consists of 2 layers of plywood which rests on 2 inch sections of neoprene.
The top layer of the dance floor is also an important factor. A vinyl composite "marley" floor is accepted worldwide as the best surface layer for recreational to professional dance. Facilities such as the Pacific Northwest Ballet, Boston Ballet and San Francisco Ballet, all use Marley floors as their dance surface. A Marley floor allows dancers to slide, with a degree of "controlled" slip, but it not slippery so there is less risk of slips and falls. Very few studios use professional marley floors because of the expense involved, and usually opt for a regular floor tile for a studio floor.
4 Things Every Parent Should Know (PDF)
Our 3 large dance and 3 small music studios are separate, insulated and private. They are located in the center of the building and so do not have outdoor windows; thus minimizing distractions during dance or music lessons.
At Momentum Music & Dance Academy, we take your child's safety seriously. All of our studios are fully equipped with security cameras for safety and quality assurance.
Additionally, to reduce injuries, our dance studios are equipped with state-of-the-art sprung floors.
In order to keep our severely food-allergic children safe, we request that students refrain from bringing peanut and nut food products into Momentum's facility. We have dedicated one room as the "break room" where food & snacks may be consumed. Please do not eat or drink in the reception area, dressing room or studios. This also helps maintain a clean facility.
Momentum also encourages good handwashing practices and always has instant hand sanitizer available for students to use after classes.
Our studio offers free wireless access for the convenience of our parents and older students. The network password is available at the front desk. By their very nature, shared wireless systems are not fully secure. We only recommend using this wireless connection for basic internet browsing. For a more secure environment, use our wireless to connect to a VPN. Many companies offer a VPN to their employees, and this would allow you to access your work in a secure manner. Please keep your firewall and antivirus software up to date! Momentum Staff is not available to help configure customers' equipment or troubleshoot connection problems. Please contact the manufacturer of your hardware for assistance. |
